A little About Us – Williams opens PC repair store in Prescott

By Jason Schulte, Rivertown News

Derek Williams has traveled and worked across the United States of America. Yet, when he made the decision to own and operate his first business, he chose Pierce County and, specifically, Prescott. “There are good people in this town, and good people in this county,” Williams said last month, sitting in the front office of Home Town PC Repair. The business is located at 140 Broad St. S. Williams also has family connections to Pierce County, as his grandparents are Dick and the late Janet Rybicki, who started Rybicki Cheese, located at the Mall of America. “I spent many summers working there,” Williams said about the famous cheese store, which also specialized in Green Bay Packer souvenirs.

Williams said his knowledge of computers was gained after spending four years working on a military base. “I’m trying to help hard working people,” he said, joined by business partners Shaun Waterbury and Corey Voigt. “I’m not looking to scam people; I’m here to inform them.” To go along with that rationale, Williams said one of his goals is to keep as many flat rates as possible for customers. “I’m excited about this place,” he said. “I love seeing people walking out of here with happy faces.”

Besides PC repairs and tune-ups, Williams’ plans for the store include turning the front office into a classroom for tutorials on basic computer programs such as Windows 8. He also said, in regards to apps on cell phones, “if it’s a program issue or a virus in it, we can do it.” He further added Home Town PC will also accept customers’ old electronics, with the exception of televisions. Williams is running a back to school special in areas such as virus removals, wireless removal set-ups and smart phone questions. Teachers and those who have served in the military will also receive discounts.
